Happy Birthday to Kristen!
Today my youngest sister is turning 30! Unbelievable! This post is for you, Kristen! (I am allowed to be mushy only once a year and this is it.)
Beautiful baby
Born in the fall
We took care of you
Let you flip off the changing table (only once)
Pulled you around in a pampers box
Taught you to walk using pool cues
At only 8 months old
You were the delight of the family
Bringing many smiles and lots of laughter
Wonderful child
Taught you to read and to love books
We went to the library together
Laid on my bed end to end voraciouly reading whatever we could find.
You would read Nate the Great and I would read Agatha Christie.
Playing Nintendo
You defeated that blasted Bowser and saved the Princess
We cheered and yelled
The game shot off a few fireworks and that was it before the game started again
This time harder
Fabulous Teen
Went through so much
Yet held your head high
Didn't let it defeat you
Held on to what you knew best
God would carry you through
to better times
Learned to drive a stick shift
Red jeep full of friends
Worlds of opportunity ahead
Super College Student
Finding your way in the world
Weaving words together in beautiful ways
Making life long friends
Phenomenal Woman
We are so much alike and yet so much different
Years between us and yet it is like there are none at all
No one gets me like you get me
You are understanding and accepting
Loyal and dependable
Beautiful smile and peals of laughter
We talk about music and books and movies
and life
We have intertwined our lives together as more than sisters
We are friends
You are still the delight of the family
Bringing many smiles and lots of laughter
Bright shining star
Love You!!

Help!
Someone who shall remain nameless is crunching on Coco Puffs and clanking the bowl. I had to evacuate the kitchen area, turn on the stereo (Owl City if you must know), and start blogging to take my mind off it.
Dear Sis:
I'm sorry for all those years of clanking the spoon, slurping, and crunching that I did in order to make you lose your mind. Bowl after bowl while I read comic books. You were right. It is annoying! If it makes you feel any better, I'm getting paid back now. hehe!

Just Another Reason to Drink Coffee
I love the Eat This Not That Books. Now if I could just actually make better choices. One thing I'm doing right is coffee!

Coffee
Beyond boosting altertness for up to 90 minutes, that morning cup is the number-one source of antioxidants in the American diet and can help decrease your risk of developing Alzheimer's disease by as much as 60 percent.Saturday, October 24, 2009

Fall Break
We spent Fall Break at Lake Tenkiller. The lake level was way up...over 12 feet higher than normal. It is wild to see picnic tables covered in water. The boys and I did some exploring while we were there. On Thursday we trekked to Sequoyah's Home which is not too far from Sallisaw. We then went on a wild goose chase to a place called Dwight Mission which was an Indian school moved to Oklahoma from Arkansas in the 1800's. It is now a Presbyterian Camp. Dwight Mission was in the middle of nowhere. I saw a sign for it and turned and thought I'd see it in a few miles. It was more like 20 minutes! On Friday, we went to Muskogee and saw the USS Batfish (a WWII submarine) and War Memorial. The sub is not underwater just basically lying on the ground, but you can go in it and explore to your heart's content. I have no earthly idea how anyone can live on a sub for months at a time. Those are some close quarters!! I'd hate to have to squeeze into one of those tiny bunks or bathrooms. Ugh!! On Saturday, I spent the day watching football....OU v. TX and OSU v. Mizzou.

Tip O' the Week
When traveling always pack at least one back up book. (Sidenote: I tried to spell "traveling" with two l's - travelling - Isn't that how we used to spell it?) In lieu of this, always know where the closest book store is. It is a well known fact that if you only pack one book, you invariably will finish it and be left for the rest of the trip without a thing to read. Nothing can be worse unless you know of a bookshop nearby which will alleviate your problem. It doesn't matter how long the book is, if you only pack one, you will finish it. I once read The Thornbirds (a 700 or 800 page book) in about a 24 hour period because I got stuck in an airport overnight and couldn't sleep. I stayed up and read all night. Oh and by the way, I had run out of things to read while on a trip to Las Vegas and had to peruse my great aunt's shelves for some paperback to take with me on the trip home. She kindly gave me The Thornbirds and I readily admit to loving every last bit of that book!

WOOT!! Yes, I was one of the ones who actually went out and voted. Got lost trying to find my voting place since I now have to vote in Guthrie. Seriously! I was the 11th voter in my precinct.
I'm so excited about all the cool stuff our school district will be doing. You can see what it will look like here.

This and That
- I may be crazy. I feel like I can't blog until I get the colors and template just right on my blog. It doesn't matter that I haven't posted in months. The reason I haven't posted is because I always get sidetracked on the blog template. So, look out, the blog may look different every time you look at it.
- I had the weirdest dream last night. I enrolled for a Consumer Law class and bought my book and went to the first few classes. Apparently I then forgot all about the class and didn't attend for months. I had thrown my book in a cabinet and forgot the class. Yikes! I wonder what this dream is trying to tell me. One thing I do know...keep a calendar!! LOL
- We went to Chase's football game last night. It was at PCO which is where Josh used to play, I think. I'm pretty sure I went to a game there. Anyway, I mentioned this to Chase who then started yelling to his friends in the parking lot. "Hey, my cousin Josh played football here. IT IS ON!!" He also told me that the coach told them not to trash talk even if they other team was being mean and then he told me, "We talk with our helmets!" Love that! Smart coach!
- On a sad note, I had to retire my Orange Crush t-shirt. It smells like mildew. EWW! I think it has something to do with that fabulous front load washer I had to have. You have to leave the door open when you are finished with it or it stinks to high heaven! If anyone sees another Orange Crush t-shirt, tell me! I need a new one!! That was my favorite tee!
- I have recently picked back up the habit of drinking coffee and this is one habit I'm glad to have picked back up. (That has to be the worst written sentence ever, but I haven't had coffee yet this morning so I'm just going with it.) Nothing better than a hot cup of coffee on a cool autumn day. Plus, I actually read it gives your brain a kick start for the day. So there you go. Just another reason to drink coffee!
- Have you had the Pumpkin Spice Latte at Starbucks? It is a little piece of heaven. OK, I promise I'm done talking about coffee although I did notice Pumpkin Spice Cappuccinos at 7-11 and I'll bet they're only 79 cents instead of $4.
- 2 words for you - FALL BREAK!! We are headed to Tenkiller after the boys get out of school. I plan to read a lot and watch a lot of football.
- I tried to password protect the blog which I'm not really sure if I like. If you know someone else who wants to read my mindless ramblings, let me know or they can email me and I'll email them an invite.
