Win a Free Book--Finn
Shelfari was nice enough to inform me that you can sign up to win a free copy of the book Finn: A Novel by Jon Clinch. It is the story of Huck Finn's father. Sounds cool to me. And, I'm always up for a free book. They're giving away 50 copies so go sign up now! (Just click the heading of this post.)

Word for The Day
I have run across this word twice in the past few days and have decided we all need to add it to our vocabulary. I read it in a case and then today I heard Meredith Viera say it on the Today show. I couldn't believe my ears. So without further ado, the word is BOONDOGGLE. Isn't that a great word? Boondoggle is defined as "work or activity that is wasteful or pointless but gives the appearance of having value." Also can mean "a public project of questionable merit that typically involves political patronage and graft." With that second definition, I'm surprised the word isn't common knowledge. Can't Wait

for the new series that will begin airing on PBS on April 27th. It is called Carrier and takes a look at life aboard an aircraft carrier. The USS Nimitz will be the ship. As most of you know, I've been watching JAG like a crazy woman. I will finish all 10 seasons around the end of April. That series has piqued my interest in all things military. The new PBS series couldn't have come at a better time.

These Pens Rock My World!

I picked up some new pens at Office Depot yesterday. They are Staedtler which Keeks swears by. I thought hers were just a bit scratchy, but I hit the jackpot on these pens! I must have found a bigger tip than are on her pens. They are more like a marker and they have a wide line. I got the .6mm (F)and they are perfect. To top it all off, they come in the special "Staedtler Case" which acts as a case and a stand. Woo Hoo! By the way, these pens are only $3.99 at Office Depot. They were laying out in some clearance bin. I think I better get back over there and stock up!

Where Have You Been All My Life?

Nutella , where have you been? I'm probably way late to the game, but I just had my first taste of Nutella a few weeks ago. Tastes like pure chocolate, but it is actually made of hazelnuts. This stuff rocks! You can put it on anything, but the new favorite at our house is a recipe I got from my aunt. Get a Boboli Pizza Crust and cook it. It takes about 10 minutes at 350 degrees. Take it out of the oven and get out the nutella and spread it on the crust. It will spread easily thanks to the warm crust. Then slice up some strawberries and lay them out like a pizza. Spread on some thin-sliced almonds and voila' you will have made your new favorite dessert.

Monday Morning Fun
I was reading a bedtime story to Chase last night when he let out a big ol' toot. I calmly ignored it and kept reading until he said, "When you hear the fart, turn the page." I tried to maintain my composure, but I started laughing and couldn't stop. Then he started laughing and it turned into a real gigglefest. I did finally manage to finish the book, but only after several other laughing fits. I got him off to bed and then went to bed myself. It always takes me a long time to go to sleep and last night was worse than ever. I just kept thinking about what he said and it made me crack up again. The old read-a-story cd's will never quite be the same!

Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen
(Disclaimer: 1. I love elephants. 2. I like circuses and have always been fascinated by circus people)
I finished this wonderful book last night. I was just going to read a couple of chapters and the next thing I knew I had finished the entire book. This book is told in flashbacks of a 90 (or is he 93?) year old man in a nursing home. The book has it all...murder, romance, a dwarf, and an elephant. What more could you want?
