Getting ready for Christmas
I love this prophecy of the birth of Jesus found in Isaiah 9:4-7(NIV)
For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the increase of his government and peace
there will be no end.
He will reign on David's throne
and over his kingdom,
establishing and upholding it
with justice and righteousness
from that time on and forever.
The zeal of the LORD Almighty
will accomplish this.
Pajama Pants
I have noticed several people who were wearing their pajama pants out in public. Maybe I'm getting old or maybe I'm just getting grouchy, but what is up with this new trend? Don't get me wrong. I love being comfortable. If I'm at home, I'm usually in a t-shirt and pajama pants. I might even venture out to the mailbox in my pajama pants, but I definitely wouldn't wear them to the store or to a restaurant. I'm not the best dresser, but I do at least put on a pair of jeans before leaving the house. But wait...uh oh...I just had a flashback of myself in high school wearing boxers as shorts. Remember those plaid boxers that you could get at Dillards. OK, maybe wearing pajama pants isn't as bad as I thought. Live and let live! ;)

Video Game Bliss
Cole received a Game Cube for his birthday. Yes, I picked it out. For those of you who don't know...I'm a video game addict. Once I start playing, I just can't stop. I rationalized this purchase by saying to myself that the boys would be the only ones playing. I would not touch a controller except to help them set up a game. Well, that philosophy has gone out the window. I made the mistake of showing them how to drive the cars in Mario Kart Double Dash and the damage was done. I can't stop playing! So, it may be light blogging around here for a few days. :) Cole especially loves the snowboarding game (SSX3) that he specially requested. As for me, give me Mario Kart anyday! Now if Santa will just be kind enough to leave me Paper Mario in my stocking, I'll have it made!

Santa's newest elf! Posted by Hello
Adventures with Grammy
It seems Friday nights at our house have turned into "field trip" nights where we go out with my mom on one of her adventures. Such field trips may turn into a wild good chase. When you are with my mom, you never know where you are going to end up, but you do know that it will be fun. Last night we headed out to Tuttle, Oklahoma to see the Festival of Lights at the Tiger Safari. It was an adventure just getting out there in the dark. Actually, they had plenty of signs posted but I am directionally challenged. :) We went on a short hayride where they took you around to the different animal exhibits. (By the way, it is $2 per person to take a hayride and we had to write a check! It would be easier to take cash.) It is small enough that you could walk the exhibits, also. They had snakes, porcupines, tigers, a lemur, a macaw and many other creatures which I can't think of right now. I plan to take the boys back out there during the day when we can see the animals better and when it is warmer. We then headed to Orr Family Farm to ride the train. But, they were closing when we got there. (Note to self: They close at 9.) Rats! So, I guess that will be another adventure to write about later. We did go eat at Harry Bears in Moore before heading home.

Bible Gateway
This cool site can help you find anything in the Bible in just about any version you can think of. Double thumbs up...I'd quadruple thumbs up it if I could!
Proverb for the Day
I love the nuggets of wisdom in Proverbs. I'm going to try to share some of my favorites more often on my blog. Here is today's: "Better a dry crust with peace and quiet than a house full of feasting with strife." (NIV) Proverbs 17:1 I like the way The Message Bible says it, too. "A meal of bread and water in contented peace is better than a banquet spiced with quarrels."

Fantabulous Weekend!
I am just now getting around to writing about my fun weekend. On Friday afternoon, Sissy (my sister) flew in to town so she could surprise my mom at her surprise 60th birthday party on Saturday. (Yes we went all out for my mom's birthday this year...a bull and a surprise party!) We went to dinner and a movie with our other sister, Kristen. (We went to see Bridget Jones, in case you were wondering. It was hilarious!!) On Saturday we had my mom's party at A Spot for Tea. I'm not sure how many people were there...I think between 35-40. My mom was totally surprised and had a wonderful time. After that we (Mom, sisters, Grandma and cousin) all headed out to Bricktown. We went to the new movie theater to see Oceans 11. Hugest screen I've ever seen! The theater was really awesome and the lights downtown were awesome. If you haven't been downtown yet this year, you are missing out. All in all a great weekend! Woo Hoo!

Bullmania! Posted by Hello
As you can see from the sign, today is my mom's 60th birthday. It honor of the event, I located and rented the infamous Sirloin Stockade Bull. I have been telling my mom for years that I was going to rent the thing for her birthday and this year I actually got to do it. Finding the bull is another story. I have been looking for it since the summer. About a month ago I was driving the boys to school when I saw the bull advertising a garage sale. I quickly took the boys to school and went back to find out who owned the bull. The owner was there and we quickly made a deal for me to rent it. My mom insists that this is her best birthday ever! Woohoo!!

Pearl Harbor Day
This post is especially for my mom who instilled in me a deep sense of pride and love for our country, a respect for the military and the people who serve our country, and a love of history. (Digression: I come from a very patriotic family. Once when I was a kid we went to a 4th of July celebration at Owen Field in Norman where the Osmonds were flown in on a helicopter and landed on the field. I will never forget my aunt telling all of us that when we heard the song "God Bless America" we'd better get a tear in our eye!) Without further ado, here are some sites to help us remember Pearl Harbor.

Yes, there's another reader in the family!  Posted by Hello
On My Nightstand
  • One Incredible Moment by Max Lucado - I read this book almost every year around Christmas time. It will give you a whole new perspective on Christmas. I highly recommend it.
  • Bridget Jones The Edge of Reason by Helen Fielding - I tried to read the first book and couldn't get into it. Everyone tells me that the sequel is better. After Kristen's posts on hair dying, I was inspired to read Bridget Jones.
  • Skipping Christmas by John Grisham - The only and I mean only Grisham book I have not read. I want to go see the movie, too. (Chritmas with the Kranks)
  • The Hour Game by David Baldacci - Started it, got sidetracked and now I have to start the book over. I've had too much going on around here to read much lately. Baldacci also wrote Total Control and Absolute Power, which were both excellent!

Journey to Bethlehem
My mom and I took the boys on a walk-through Christmas story (for lack of a better way of describing it) at Forest Hills Christian Church. If you are in the OKC area, I definitely recommend going. The church is located on MacArthur, just south of 23rd street. Anyway, they have guides who lead you through the journey. You start in Nazareth and end up in Bethlehem. Along the way, you meeting many interesting people, even Roman soldiers! You even get to go to the market in Bethlehem. It is well worth your time to go. You can feel the Spirit of God as you take the journey. It is so neat to see an entire church work on something together. Everyone was helping...from young to old. Both of the boys were enthralled by the whole thing. Did I mention they also have real animals? Donkeys, Camels, Chickens, Llamas It got a double thumbs up from both of my boys!

Our High Priest
We have been studying Hebrews in Bible Study Fellowship and it has been fascinating so far. I have firmly etched in my mind a picture of Jesus sitting at the right hand of God praying for me. Now that is cool! I pulled out The Message version this morning to read some of the verses again. I love this one: Hebrews 4:14-16
Now that we know what we have--Jesus, this great High Priest with ready
access to God--let's not let it slip through our fingers. We don't have a
priest who is out of touch with our reality. He's been through weakness
and testing, exprienced it all--all but the sin. So let's walk right up
him and get what he is ready to give. Take the mercy, accept the
help.

Psalm 100
Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth.
Worship the Lord with
gladness;
come before him with joyful songs.
Know that the Lord is
God.
It is he who made us, and we are his;
we are his people, the sheep of
his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving
and his courts with
praise;
give thanks to him and praise his name.
For the Lord is good and
his love endures forever;
his faithfulness continues through all
generations.

WooHoo!
I'm sitting here typing my first blog entry from my brand new desk. Wow! I've been wanting a new desk forever and my wish has come true. Chris bought me a new credenza, hutch, and desk as my Christmas present. Just the credenza and desk were delivered today. The desk will be here in about 3 weeks, hopefully, before Christmas. Now if I can just get everything back in this desk that was in the old one. Actually, as you know from my previous post, I've been cleaning like crazy so hopefully I'll even have a little room to spare in my new desk. The first thing I did was hook up to the internet so I could start blogging and checking email.

Help! I've started cleaning and I can't stop!
Just waded through my mess of an office to make this post. It all started yesterday when I got in Chase's closet to find him something to wear and couldn't find a darn thing because it was so messy. I then proceeded to clean out his entire closet and bagged up a bunch of clothes that no longer fit. Then I cleaned out all of his drawers. Thought I was over the cleaning fit until it hit me again this morning. I started cleaning out Cole's closet and his drawers. Then I had to clean off my desk and everything on it since I'm getting a new desk delivered on Monday. Somehow, just cleaning off the desk turned into cleaning out the whole office. I dumped all my books off the shelves and started rearranging. I don't have just one bookcase either. I have 3 book cases all crammed full. Now if I can just get all this junk I'm getting rid of out to the garage before I wear out, I'll have it made. Why does this happen to me? I start cleaning and I can't stop. It is like spring cleaning very late in the year. LOL!

Finding Neverland
I got to go see my long awaited movie last night. It was fantastic! Johnny Depp is amazing as is Kate Winslet. This is the story of how J.M. Barrie created Peter Pan. As we say at my house, this movie gets a "double thumbs up!"

Give Thanks
Just a few verses about being thankful to prepare our hearts and minds for Thanksgiving. I know all the stores have Christmas stuff out and radio stations are already playing Christmas music. But, I for one, am not skipping Thanksgiving this year. I plan to spend the day with family and friends and be truly grateful for all I have been given.

Psalm 136:1 Give thanks to the Lord for he is good. His love endures forever.
I also like the Message version: Thank God! He deserves your thanks. His love never quits.

Psalm 100:4-5 Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.

Colossians 2:6-7 So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith a you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.

Colossians 3:17 And whatver you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 give thanks in all circumstances
Message: thank God no matter what happens...

Want more? Here are some that my middle schoolers came up with.
Hebrews 12:28
Phil. 1:3-8
Ps. 35:18
1 Chronicles 16:8, 34
Eph. 1:16

Dyed Hair Fiasco Part 2
Here is Kristen's last panicked email. LOL Actually, I saw her this morning and her hair looked fine to me. (wait...may she ran out to a 24 hour wig store and got one!)

Hair in manic state--only hanging limply down--no bounce or sheen in
sight. Oh my beautiful mane!!! Have now secured in tightly wound towel
hoping to hold in moisture so that hair follicles may reroot themselves.
Will now take steps to get ready for bed but am distressed--what if towel
removal displays the worst? Must be strong. Hair or no hair--life must go
on!

Dyed Hair Fiasco
My sister, Kristen, and I were emailing back and forth when I received this message:

forgot I had dye in my hair and have now been on the computer 20 minutes
longer than anticipated!!! Hope hair does not fall out!!! May put wig on
christmas list!!!

keeks

I then replied telling her it sounded just like Bridget Jones. At which point I received two more emails which made me laugh my head off. Thought you might enjoy them as well!

Have now rinsed out dye...Must not panic. Am self-assured person...baldness
does not affect who I am. Will now condition as directions recommend.
Hoping for the best.
Yours affectionately,
Hairless Keeks

Scalp is tingling, tingling, TINGLING. What will I do?! Hair smells like burnt
rubbish. Must remain calm. May have to call in sick due to grievous mistake on
my part. Cannot bear to have people see me in this state. Conditioner has
become my new best friend--UNLESS--I may become a loyal customer of
ROGAINE...although wig may be best choice. No more crazy hair...only cute,
gorgeous hair...I'm thinking Jennifer Aniston hair or Julia Roberts hair...Yes,
I may be onto something here

the fiasco continues on...hair truly
is in a state...must continue to condition

The Polar Express
I've always been a fan of this book by Chris Van Allsburg and had my doubts as to whether they could make a movie that would be as good as the book. In my humble opinion, Tom Hanks has done it! The movie is beautifully done and is a wonderful story. The parts they added enhanced the book instead of taking away from it. I predict this one will be a new Christmas "classic." As for the book, I must share this story. While I was still teaching school, I had a wonderful principal who would come each year and read The Polar Express to my class. For some reason, hearing him read it would always choke me up. Especially that last page of the book which I won't quote here just in case you haven't read it or seen the movie. Go enjoy both the book and the movie!

Middle School Update
As I mentioned earlier, I am now teaching a Middle School Bible Study at my church. So far, it has been a blast! I usually have 5-7 girls ranging from 11-13 years of age. They are hilarious! They get so excited about everything and just act plain silly. It is refreshing and funny. It did my heart good last night to see all of them digging through a concordance and their Bibles looking for verses about being thankful. At the end of our lesson last night, we all made lists of at least 10 things we were thankful for. They had serious ones, of course, like family, friends, God, Jesus, and the Bible. However, my favorite part was hearing the fun ones. Flip flops, toilets, smiles, pens, pencils, books, indoor plumbing, hot showers, and many more. What really cracked me up is that about 3 of the 6 wrote down flip flops. And no, they didn't consult each other while making the lists. Hmmm...maybe I need to go buy a pair of flip flops!

Neat Story
I meant to mention this on Sunday so hopefully you are like me and still haven't finished reading your Sunday paper. In Parade magazine, there is a wonderful story by Pat Conroy about his father and his love of hot dogs. Wonderful! I love the way Pat Conroy writes. If you can't find your Parade magazine, the story should be online on Nov. 22nd. Now some of you are wondering, who in the world is Pat Conroy. He is a fantastic author who writes beautifully. I can't even begin to explain his writing. You just have to read it. His most famous books are Prince of Tides and Beach Music.

different kind of prayer
Just found this on my sister's blog. Cool!
Friends
I went out to dinner tonight with some old high school friends. Okay, maybe old isn't the best choice of words since we're all edging nearer 40 everyday. LOL We went to the Olive Garden and it was delicious. I hadn't been there in a long time. I hardly ever eat Italian food so this was a treat. Even better than the food was the company. We laughed, complained and sympathized with each other. I loved Jan's post on girlfriends. I agree with her. Go get yourself some good girlfriends now or call the ones you have and arrange a Girl's Night Out. It will do you good!

Inspector Gadget
Cole recently saw the movie "Inspector Gadget" and is now convinced that he is "Gadget." He has a corner of the living room set up as the gadget cave. Blocking it off is a marker board on which he has drawn all the controls on the dashboard of his gadgetmobile. The most hilarious thing is that I caught him brushing his teeth with his index finger. He informed me that the toothbrush was built into his finger, therefore, he had no need for his regular toothbrush. Later this evening he laid down on the floor and yelled that he needed a new chip. A new chip?? He needed a computer chip to reset all his gadgets. OK, the kid is 5 and he knows much more than I do! LOL
The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd
I liked this book, too. It is my book club's selection for the month. It is the story of a young girl who escapes from her father and lives with three black sisters who keep bees. I know it sounds weird, but it is a page turner. My favorite part of the book is how the author uses a quote from a nonfiction book about bees and then that chapter has to do with the quote. Very clever!
Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas by James Patterson
Uh...yes, I've had time to read two books, but no time to blog! LOL Anyhoo, this book was wonderful. I read the whole thing in one night. I stayed up until 1:30 a.m. to finish it. Neat love story and uniquely written. I don't want to give too much away so grab a copy and a box of kleenex and get reading!
Juggling
Man! I've been having trouble keeping up with everything lately. Unfortunately, something had to give and it has been one of my favorite pastimes...blogging. I will try to get back to posting more often this week.

This post goes out to my sister, Kristen
I have been feeling horrible the past couple of days. Horrible headache, throwing up, etc. Kristen has been sick, too, with an upper respiratory infection. She called me yesterday while I was lying in bed feeling sorry for myself, hoping upon hope that I could get a new head attached to my body. ;) I told her what was going on and not more than an hour later, she showed up at my house armed with lotion and ready to give me a massage. What could be better than a massage? Not much! She even did my hands and feet. So, this post goes out to her to tell her thank you for being much more than being my sister. Thank you for being my friend!

The Incredibles
I took Cole (almost 6 years old) to see The Incredibles yesterday. He loved it and so did I. This is the first PG movie I have ever let him watch. I decided to let him see it because of one simple fact...he loves anything that has to do with superheroes. I knew the movie was rated PG because of action violence. There was not any bad language (at least I didn't notice it) in the movie. The movie was well done, but does have a lot of explosions, crashes, fighting, etc without any blood. The beginning of the movie is a little long for younger kids as it is setting up the premise for the whole movie. I don't think Chase (almost 4) could have sat through it until the excitement began. It is typical Pixar...very clever and very funny. I would recommend it for older kids, teens and adults. You can read a family friendly review here and other reviews here.
Even if you don't take your kids, take yourself. You'll enjoy it!

Putnam City West Prom (1985...gee, that's almost 20 years ago. Scary!) Posted by Hello

November 3, 1990 Chris and Kyndal's Wedding Posted by Hello
Special Day

Today Chris and I are celebrating our 14th anniversary. My how time flies! I thought my readers might get a kick out of a wedding picture and a picture of us at our senior prom. Chris and I have known each other since we were in 7th grade. We met in 5th hour speech class where we promptly hit it off because we spent most of our time making fun of the other kids and their speeches. It was not so funny, however, when we had to take the stage ourselves. Chris and I remained friends through Jr. High and High School, although we didn't have any other classes together until our senior year. We dated briefly when he was 16 and I was 15. He had this cool, old convertible and could drive by himself. What a thrill! LOL After a couple of dates I informed him I just wanted to be "friends." Broke his heart or so he tells me. Didn't see much of him after that...hmmm...I wonder why. Anyway, we ended up in a computer class together our senior year. There were 20 guys in the class and only 4 girls. I guess girls and computers weren't cool back in 1985. The girls all sat together right next to Chris and his buddy, Mark. Chris and I got reacquainted and spent a lot of time laughing in that class. One of our favorite memories being that I missed a test and had to make it up at which time I informed the teacher that I was going to ace the test. Wrong! I got a 65. EEK! We all had a good laugh over that one. I asked Chris to the Christmas Dance and we went and had a good time, but did not date after that just remained friends. Chris still insists that the only reason I asked him was so that I could get a date to the prom. Well, it worked. He took me to the prom. I left for college and didn't see him too much until after I had graduated and already had my first teaching job. My mom and dad were in Las Vegas and my grandma was staying with us since Kristen was only 10 or 11 at the time. I went to the store to get hotdog buns for dinner and did not return home for 2 hours. My grandma was panicked. What happened to me? Well I went to the store and ran into Chris and we proceeded to talk for a couple of hours. He then asked me if he could call me some time and I said yes thinking he would never call. He called the next day and the rest is history. We dated for about 6 months and got engaged. We were married about 5 months later. So, there you have it the Kliewer Story in a nutshell.

Beyond the Gates of Splendor
A new movie is coming out this weekend that tells the story of five missonaries who were killed in Ecuador. Our BSF leader recently read some comments by Elisabeth Elliot, whose husband was one of the five killed, so this film immediately caught my eye. The most amazing thing is that Elisabeth Elliot eventually returned to live with the people who killed her husband. This will be an inspiring film! If you are here in Oklahoma, it will be at AMC Quail Springs, Penn Square and Crossroads. The movie was put out by Every Tribe Entertainment who is committed to making moves that "inspire hope through truth beyond imagination." Sounds look a good goal to me. I hope to see the movie this weekend.

Kristen and the boys at the corn maze celebrating her 25th birthday. Posted by Hello

We had a blast at the corn maze at PBar Farms. We got lost in the maze (of course) and ended up coming out the same way we went in. The maze was cool because they had signs with questions which gave hints on where to go next. We also went on a hay ride and a train ride. The train ride was cool because the kids got to ride in cut out barrels pulled behind a tractor. Did I mention my mom also rode the train? I told her I was going to post a picture of her on my blog so I'll be putting it up later today. LOL All in all, a great day!

New Adventure
I'll be embarking on a new adventure tonight as I begin teaching a middle school Bible Study. We are starting tonight with basics about the Bible including basic facts and how we got the Bible we have today. As usual when I get ready to teach something I end up learning more than the kids! I'd love to have your prayers to bless this new ministry. I'll keep you posted!
Field Trip Alert
If you are looking for a fun road trip for you and your kids this weekend, check out PBar Farms in Hydro, Oklahoma. One of my friends went this past weekend and is still raving about the huge corn maze. My mom, sister, the boys and I are going to head out there this weekend to celebrate Kristen's 25th birthday. I can't believe my baby sister is 25. How old does that make me???! Never mind! LOL

Lorikeet drinking nectar. Posted by Hello

Chase's favorite part of the zoo...cotton candy! Posted by Hello

Cole loves the lorikeets! Posted by Hello
Zoo Fun
Since the boys are out of school for fall break, we took the afternoon and went to the zoo. The weather was beautiful. Everyone else had the same idea as us. There weren't any parking places left at the zoo so we parked next door at the Omniplex. We had a great time at the zoo. It didn't seem to be that crowded once we got inside. The best part of the zoo...the lorikeet exhibit where you can buy nectar and feed the birds. I was wearing a bright orange shirt and as soon as I walked in the exhibit, birds were all over me. They were even on my head. It was hilarious!

Pumpkin Patch Field Trip Posted by Hello
We went to Chester's Party Barn with Chase's preschool today. We got lost in a corn maze, went on a hayride, fed the animals and generally had a lot of outdoor fun. This is one of the best days, weather wise, we've ever had at Chester's. Last year, we almost froze our tails off and spent most of our time in a barn playing in the huge sandpile. (By the way, I did get a digital camera so look out...pictures galore!)

Fall Fun! Posted by Hello
We went to a Fall/Halloween party at a friends tonight. What a blast! We had pizza and then the kids carved pumpkins (or should I say the parents carved the pumpkins), broke a pinata, went on a tractor ride and made smores. The weather was perfect and the smores were more than perfect. Next time you make a smore, use two marshmallows and double chocolate. Delicious! It was just nice to spend time outside with the kids having fun. (By the way, I didn't buy a digital camera yet, but I had one in hand tonight. A friend loaned me hers to try out. Awesome! Instant prints!)

  • The Sunday Philosophy Club by Alexander McCall Smith

  • Holman Book of Biblical Charts, Maps and Reconstructions - Can't wait to look at this one. Kristen saw it at the library and knew I would like it.

American Presidents: Life Portraits

I've always been interested in presidential trivia so this site tripped my trigger. In fact, I've got several books about the presidents kicking around here. I have always found that kids love this sort of information, too. They are fascinated, as am I, by all the interesting things that happened during presidential terms. Back to the site, just pick a president at the top of the page and voila instant information at your fingertips. Cool! Be sure to look at the left side of the page for "Did You Know?" facts.

Fun Greetings
Beat Greets is a site you can use to send e-cards to other people. It features lots of new and old songs. It is just plain fun! They also feature a few Christian artists. Enjoy!
Jackpot!
While cleaning out some things in an old trailer this weekend, I came across some treasures...10 Camp Snoopy glasses put out by McDonald's many years ago. Jackpot! I packed them up and put them through the dishwasher a couple of times and now they are going to be my "everyday" glasses. I also found about 6 Coca Cola glasses. Another jackpot! My favorite Camp Snoopy glass is Linus pulling his blanket out from a picnic lunch Lucy and Charlie Brown are having. The bubble says "The struggle for security is no picnic." Classic. Charles Schulz was a genius!

the curious incident of the dog in the night-time by mark haddon
I had the pleasure of reading this book this weekend. It is quite a bit different from your usual novel since this story is written from the point of view of an autistic 15 year old boy. This book gave me insights into the world of an autistic boy and helped me understand where he was coming from. I found the book most interesting, perhaps, because I am a former teacher and had a few autistic students in my classroom throughout the years. I wish I had read this book then because I would have understood them better. Original, interesting, entertaining, heartbreaking and a mystery all woven together...what more could you ask for? Read it!

Cruisin'
I just returned from my peaceful weekend. Wonderful! The boys stayed with their grandmas and we hopped in the convertible (Did I mention it is red? What could be better than cruising in a red car?) and took a two-lane highway to Lake Tenkiller. It was so nice and relaxing. I don't know what it is about riding in a convertible or on a motorcycle, for that matter. Something about that wind hitting you in the face and feeling the sunshine makes you feel better. We had beautiful weather! Today on the way home, we had to drive with the top up because of all the rain. It was still fun! So, now it is back to reality. But, I feel refreshed and renewed and I'm ready to tackle "real" life.

Cole's Family Portrait Posted by Hello
Cole has recently decided that he is an "artist." He does all of his pictures in a trademark blue marker. I'm so excited because this is the first time Cole has ever been interested in drawing and writing. He has been drawing on everything he can find. There are pictures everywhere. There is a drawer full of pictures he has drawn to give other people. Now about this picture: The two largest people are his Grandma and Papa. The two little guys on the left are Cole and Chase. The rest of the heads and dots in the picture represent the rest of his family including grandmas, great grandmas, aunts, uncles and cousins.
The Blogger is Back
I know you have been frantically wondering why I have not posted in a whole 4 days. I think this may be the longest I have ever gone without posting. It has been crazy around here. And, I do mean crazy. We have had four deaths in the family within the last 6 weeks. I just haven't felt much like posting. I've been busy with family stuff and the boys. I haven't really felt much like doing anything. I'm not really sad, perhaps numb would be a better word. Today, I feel more like myself. I'm trying out a new blog look and hope to get back to posting more regularly, although I will be taking most of the weekend off. I'm headed off for a peaceful weekend to look at fall foliage. When I get back, I'll hopefully have some good pictures to post. Darn! I really do need to get that digital camera so you don't have to wait around for me to get the film developed. ;)

Verse for the Day
"Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked."

Child's Play
Today while we were outside, Chase (age 3) decided to use sidewalk chalk on our neighbor's driveway. When I walked over and asked him what he was drawing, he replied "A masterpiece." Unbelievable!! But wait, it gets even better. When he was finished I asked him who it was a picture of and he replied, "Leo Lionni." Leo Lionni is a childrens author and illustrator. Chase has been reading his books at preschool. I can hardly wait until Monday so I can tell his preschool teachers!! LOL

Classic Novels in 5 Minutes a Day
I ran across this neat site today. You can pick out a novel you'd like to read and this site will email you a small portion of the novel each day that you should be able to read in 5 minutes. Neat! I think I'll start with The Age of Innocence.

Laughing Out Loud!
I was never an Ellen DeGeneres fan when her sitcom was on. However, have you seen her talk show? It is absolutely hilarious!!! Every time I watch it, I start laughing until tears are coming out of my eyes. The monologue is funny, the dancing is funny and I love it when she calls people on the phone. Tomorrow's episode is a must-watch. Kitty is going to be on the show! If you need a good laugh, tune in. (Yes, I've been using my new Cox DVR to record it everyday. I love technology!)

Sequoyah Book Awards
Even though I don't teach anymore, I still enjoy reading children's literature. While I was at the library the other day, I noticed the new Sequoyah list and all the books. I checked out three and can't wait to read them. The Sequoyah Award is given to the book on the list that receives the most votes as voted on by the children. Some of the previous winners which I really enjoyed include: Holes by Louis Sachar, Harriet the Spy by Louise Fitzhugh and Summer of the Monkeys by Wilson Rawls. Some books that didn't win the award were better than the winners (in my humble opinion) . Two of my favorites are Belle Prater's Boy by Ruth White and Frindle by Andrew Clements.
